The challenge
Build a stable and precise experience for high-volume events
The Minnesota State Lottery has a demanding and diverse set of technology needs and operates in a highly regulated industry. Their business revolves around high-traffic peak events and subsequent highly interactive follow-up traffic. Performance and custom software are key to both their business success and their customer experience. The Lottery needed a tech partner who could ensure stable and consistent uptime during high demand with precise execution. They wanted to reduce their reliance on developers to execute every Second Chance contest so they could operate more quickly and independently.
What we did
- Clockwork’s Tech Ops team collaborated with the Lottery’s team to load balance as visitors spiked and built a fast, slimmed-down version of the website home page that is used during high traffic spikes to ensure uptime
- Established, tested, and verified a standard communication protocol to pull entry codes from third-party providers to speed up and simplify the Lottery’s process
- Tested the customer experience to validate thinking and design while assessing performance and identifying new opportunities with a younger audience
- Providing ongoing maintenance of and support for the Lottery’s website and mobile experience
Outcomes
99.93%
Server uptime over two-year period
Millions
Of promotional codes (and counting)
An ongoing promotional program with millions of valid codes, hundreds of thousands of claimed codes, and numerous simultaneous contests that requires minimal third party support.
