Recently, when preparing pre-work instructions for a client team, we recently leveraged Claude.AI to review our content specifically for English as a Second Language (ESL) audiences. The AI tool provided straightforward yet valuable suggestions to enhance clarity and comprehension.
While the recommendations themselves were simple, their impact was significant. This approach allowed us to be more human-centered and thoughtful in our communications, demonstrating our commitment to inclusivity in practice rather than just principle.
It’s remarkably easy to default to our natural speech patterns and familiar expressions. The English language, rich with idioms and specialized terminology, can often create unintended barriers to clear communication. What might seem perfectly clear to native speakers can be confusing or misinterpreted by others. Leveraging available AI tools helped us significantly improve the effectiveness of our communications and reframe our thinking. This thoughtful approach ensures better understanding and creates a more welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants.
